Back in 2009, Frito-Lay chose Octaform as the preferred solution to quickly and economically build a storage facility. Because of its ability to hygienically line the interior with food-grade PVC in the same phase as concrete forming, Octaform was the obvious choice. The owner was able to realize substantial cost-savings on the initial construction as no stripping of forms, or application of coatings or PVC liner was required after-the-fact. As well the structure was completed in 14 days.
SOLUTIONS USED IN THIS PROJECT:
This project used a combination of Octaform stay-in-place PVC formwork and Quick Liner PVC Wall & Ceiling Panels used on the ceilings.
CONSTRUCTION DETAILS:
- Location: Taber, Alberta, Canada
- 400′ long X 150′
- 25′ high walls
- 10″ thick concrete + 2″ EPS foam insulation
- Construction Start Date: January 14, 2009
- Completion Time: 14 Days (bracing, formwork, insulation, rebar placement, and pouring)
- Purpose: Food storage
PRIMARY ADVANTAGES – COST & FITNESS FOR PURPOSE:
- Reduced construction time and labor
- Compliant, food-grade PVC wall system cast in the same step
- Insulation cast-in
- Reduced costs in stripping forms, application of coatings or pvc panels after construction,
IMPROVED OPERATING PERFORMANCE:
- Improved operating costs due to the thermal performance of the structure – the thermal mass of concrete on the interior of the structure with insulation on the exterior
- The extremely durable surface can be power washed extensively with no risk of moisture or mold accumulation in panel seams
- Food-grate PVC
