From an engineering perspective, do Octaform walls differ from conventionally built walls?

Octaform walls meet the same local engineering standards as conventional concrete walls.  However, Octaform concrete walls have shown increased structural strength during research and testing. We do not make any formal statements about the structural strength of the Octaform Finished Forming System; we encourage you to read our TEST REPORTS page for more information.

Do Octaform forms meet the standards of ICBO, ASTM or other tests?

Please see the test results page in our TEST REPORTS section for detailed information.

Are Octaform forming systems code-approved?

Assuming that local engineering standards are followed, the poured walls will meet all requirements of conventionally-formed walls.

General

How does the price of Octaform compare to conventional forming?

The value of the Octaform Finished Forming System is determined by your specific project parameters.

Why use Octaform instead of conventional forming?

If your project requires a concrete wall with a finished interior/exterior wall surface, then Octaform’s Finished Forming System can provide it in one system.  The wall is formed and finished in one step. There won’t be any need to bring in extra trades to finish the wall. Octaform walls are also extremely durable, easy to clean and, if necessary, food-grade sanitary from the moment they are built, reducing the need for ongoing maintenance.

What shapes can I build in?

In addition to straight-walled applications, Octaform’s Finished Forming Systems can be built in curves and circles of almost any degree or radius to heights above 30’. Custom colors and finished panel types can be specified as well.

What kind of insulation is used with Octaform?

Expanded Polystyrene is the insulation used. It comes to the site pre-cut in 6″ wide strips that are slid into the Octaform Finished Forming Systems. Each strip has pre-cut slots to slide into place. We can provide insulation to any specified R-value.

What sizes are available?

Octaform’s Finished Forming Systems are available in widths of two-inch increments from 2” to 24”. Wall height can be cut to custom lengths. We have completed projects with wall heights of 32’ in whole section lengths.

How is Octaform product transported?

All components of Octaform’s Finished Forming Systems are shipped unassembled in custom-made crates. The components are flat-packed and organized by wall type or assembly group. The quantity/volume ratio of our shipping method is extremely favourable when compared to conventional concrete forms. For example, the Finished Forming System needed to construct a 3 million gallon tank can easily be shipped on one flatbed truck.

Can Octaform be insulated?

Insulation can be incorporated within the concrete walls to provide any specified R-value. Insulation is placed within the Finished Forming System on the outside wall side – to ensure maximum efficiency is derived from the concrete’s thermal mass.

Can I incorporate sumps, filters, side boxes, etc.?

Yes. Octaform’s Finished Forming Systems are modular and have the flexibility to accommodate virtually any design feature you require.

Can I finish the interior or exterior walls?

Octaform’s finished wall panels are designed to require no additional finishing. Our finished wall panels can be supplied in a number of different colors. If required, walls can be painted any color with PVC paint. Specialty firms can also finish the walls with wall facings such as acrylic stucco, siding, brick, and stone.

Can I attach equipment to the walls?

Yes. Mechanical equipment and electrical components can be incorporated within the Octaform Finished Forming System prior to concrete being poured or mounted to the wall on completion, providing clean and secure equipment integration.

Are Octaform forms delivered assembled?

The components of the Octaform Finished Forming System are delivered to the job-site packaged by wall type or assembly group. The system is assembled after job-site preparations are completed. Assembly is simple and detailed instructions are provided in our CONSTRUCTION GUIDE (Doc 13.90MB). We can provide a field services representative at a daily or weekly rate to ensure the project meets Octaform’s quality standards.

What colours are available?

Three colours are available: white, grey and beige. Custom colours are also available upon request.

How long will a structure built with Octaform’s Finished Forming System last?

We are confident in the durability and longevity of structures built using Octaform’s Finished Forming Systems. An Octaform wall protects both the concrete and rebar and will outlast any unprotected concrete wall.

What is a “Finished Forming System”?

The Octaform Finished Forming System is a stay-in-place wall construction method – the components of the form remain in place after the concrete has cured, along with the Finished Wall Panels. It is a concrete wall and finished wall surface, constructed in one step using one system.

Octaform Finished Wall Panels are easy to clean, water resistant and require no additional sealing or finishing.

Are Octaform’s Finished Forming Systems readily available?

Customers may purchase our forming systems directly from us or through one of our registered dealers or contractors. We ship internationally. To find your closest dealers please contact us.

Installation

Can damaged panels be repaired?

Yes. We at Octaform take pride in our quality control standards.  However, in the rare case that a form is damaged, there are different approaches for repair depending on whether the damage occurs prior to or post pour. Instructions can be found in our CONSTRUCTION GUIDE (Doc 13.90MB).

Is a concrete base always required?

Yes. A thickened-edge concrete slab is always required.

How will Octaform support me through the construction process?

Octaform has a dedicated team comprised of specialized and creative industry experts that ensure Octaform provides superior solutions and support during the construction process.  A certified Octaform field services representative is available to guide the construction crew to make certain that proper building methods are used and that the project meets Octaform’s high quality standards.

How is rebar installed in an Octaform Finished Forming System?

Rebar is placed as Octaform’s Finished Forming Systems are constructed. The rebar can be placed vertically throughout a system or slid through punch outs in the system’s connectors. Rebar should be lifted and guided into the PVC forms where possible. A unique feature of the Octaform Finished Forming Systems is the ability to raise and lower individual panels to allow structural engineers to inspect the rebar for proper size and placement at any location of the wall prior to concrete pouring.

How high can I pour concrete at one time using Octaform?

While there is no limit to the finished height of a wall, concrete placement should be limited to 4-foot lifts. Concrete can be poured up to 32 feet from the top of Octaform’s systems for all structures. When working with multi-story structures, installers will form one story at a time.

How is the Octaform forming system installed?

Please consult our CONSTRUCTION GUIDE (PDF 13.90MB) for full instructions on installation of the Octaform Finished Concrete Forming System.

Do you provide technical assistance?

Yes. When required, we can provide a field services representative at a daily or weekly rate to ensure the project meets Octaform’s quality standards.

Does the forming system ever “blow out”?

Blow-outs should not happen when concrete is properly poured and proper construction practices are followed. In the event of a blow out, the sections can be emptied and a new panel can be installed very quickly. See our CONSTRUCTION GUIDE (Doc 13.90MB) for more details.

Do I need any special tools?

No. General hand tools are sufficient for most projects using Octaform’s Finished Concrete Forming System.

Do I have to use a special concrete mix?

We recommend a 20-32 MPa mix with a 4”-7” slump and an aggregate that does not exceed .5″ diameter for most jobs. In certain circumstances, pea gravel may be used. We will work with your engineer who will provide the final specification.

How fast can I pour the concrete?

Octaform’s Finished Forming Systems allow concrete placement at a nominal rate of 5 vertical feet per hour. The concrete is poured in 4-foot lifts and there is a maximum of 600 lbs of pressure per square foot.

Who installs Octaform forms?

The project’s construction crew installs Octaform. We supply the Finished Forming System to projects and work with buyers and their contractors to organize projects. If required, we can provide a field services representative at a daily or weekly rate to train the project contractors on the installation of the system and ensure the project meets Octaform’s quality standards.
